Summer Programs 2009
College Now @ Brooklyn College
Community Roots
Can a vegetable garden change how you see the world?
In this program, you will work in the Brooklyn College Campus Road Community Garden, learning everything about gardening, from how to plant, grow, and harvest flowers, herbs and vegetables to recycling organic waste through composting, and how important a garden can be to an urban neighborhood.
In addition, Brooklyn College staff, faculty and students will accompany you on field trips to see some of the most exciting community-based programs currently thriving in New York City and meet the dynamic, ordinary people who make them happen.
A green thumb is not required, just the ability to learn.
Eligibility Requirements
- Be a New York City public high school student, entering 10th, 11th or 12th grade in September 2009
- Submit an application, an essay, teacher recommendation, parental permission and a transcript.
