Topics in Multicultural Education
Have you thought about becoming a teacher?
Maybe you had a teacher who inspired you to do your best, and you are wondering how you could do the same. The Teaching New Yorkers program at LaGuardia Community College is an opportunity for you to learn the ins and outs of teaching, while you gain hands-on experience as a literacy tutor.
A typical day in this summer program will break down as follows:
Mornings:
- Students will take “Topics in Multicultural Education” course on Tuesdays and Thursdays
- On Mondays and Wednesdays, they will provide tutoring at LaGuardia’s College for Children.
Afternoons:
- This time will be split between Enrichment and Reflective Practice when students will learn ESL and literacy methodologies and spend time reflecting on what they have been teaching and learning
Eligibility Requirements
- Be a New York City public high school student entering 11th or 12th grade in September 2009.
- English Language Learners (Level 4 and above) are especially encouraged to apply.
Students coming from Laguardia Community College partner schools will be given priority, but eligible students from other public schools may attend if space permits.
