This course explores the history, techniques, and cultural contexts of the major forms of Western classical music. The course?s goals include development of the student’s musical ear and a heightened understanding of the ways in which social, intellectual and cultural patterns are reflected in music culture
Introduction to music through the study of works representing different times, places, and peoples. Recorded, concert, and classroom performances.
Concepts underlying the understanding and enjoyment of music. Examples from around the world highlight matters of form and content. Attendance at concerts, both on and off campus, as well as guided classroom listening aid in the development of listening and communication skills.
