History and Philosophy
College Now began in the 1980’s at Kingsborough Community College and expanded to other CUNY institutions over the next two decades. In 2000, the University and the NYC Board of Education (now NYC Department of Education) decided to make College Now a system-wide program for both institutions, which ultimately led to a commitment of city funds dedicated to the support and development of College Now. By the 2002-03 school year, the program had expanded to every two- and four-year college in the CUNY system. College Now is overseen and supported by a central administration which provides professional development to faculty and program staff, curriculum development, and advocacy for program design, and conducts research on the effectiveness of its programs and post-secondary student outcomes. College Now is constantly evolving. We constantly collecting data and conducting research to understand the impact of our programs and how to make them better.
