This Summer at College Now, New York City high school students took advantage of the wide variety of resources available on CUNY campuses to get a taste of what it’s like to be in college.
College Now offers a unique opportunity to have new and exciting experiences while developing college-readiness skills in a wide range of subjects. Here’s just a sample from Summer 2016:
At LaGuardia in Queens, 11th and 12th graders spent part of their days learning about social and cultural issues in the teaching profession and the rest getting hands on experience as literacy tutors.
In Brooklyn, students at New York City Tech were introduced to the range of available majors and careers in the field of Engineering. Inspired by examples of innovation and ingenuity, they developed and presented prototypes of their own inventions.
As part of FringeNYC Festival’s FringeHIGH, Baruch and Brooklyn College Now Summer program students experienced Off-Broadway theatre along with a special opportunity to “talkback” with the playwrights and actors featured in the performances.
While Staten Island College Now students learned theories of motivation in Psychology or calculated how many light years it would take to get to the nearest galaxy in Astronomy, the Bronx Civic Scholars at Hostos remained firmly earthbound yet just as forward-thinking as they considered how the grassroots organizations where they were placed for their summer internships worked for change in their communities.
This is just an example of what College Now has to offer during the Summer. A full list of Summer 2016 College Now Programs may be found at this link.
