What is SEEK?

The SEEK (Search for Education, Elevation and Knowledge) program provides academic, financial, and counseling assistance to help students succeed in the college setting. All City University of New York senior and comprehensive colleges offer SEEK services.

Because SEEK offers extra support, the University can admit first-time students who would normally not qualify for admission. In this way, it makes the dream of a college education a reality for many more New Yorkers.

Are You Eligible?

If you meet ALL of the requirements below, you are eligible for SEEK.

  1. I have a high school diploma or a high school equivalency diploma (GED).
  2. My high school average was less than 80.

Exception: A limited number of applicants with averages above 80 may be permitted entry into the program.
  3. I have lived in New York State for at least 1 year (prior to application).
  4. I am a citizen or permanent resident of the United States.
  5. This is the first time I am attending college.

    Exceptions:
    1. Individual college courses you took while in high school (like College Now classes, for example) don't count.
    2. Veterans are permitted up to 18 credits if these were earned during or prior to their tour of duty in the armed forces.
  6. My family's income is in the range specified. (This is subject to change, so it's best to check exact figures with a guidance counselor or admissions officer at the time you apply.)
