Myself Third Scholarship & Service Fund
Spirit of New York Scholarship
"The Myself Third scholarship was a welcoming beginning of my journey into college. I was thrilled to receive a scholarship that acknowledged my writing and included the importance of community service. My college experience, which at times can be overwhelming, is now off to a great start with a newfound outlook on education and serving others."
Marissa Schain,
2007 Myself Third Recipient

The Myself Third: Spirit of New York Scholarship competition was established in 2002 as a tribute to the idealism and spirit of those who participated in the rescue effort following the World Trade Center tragedy. The scholarships, made possible through a generous gift by City College alumnus Robert Friedman, seek to encourage and reward civic involvement of high school students.
Two types of awards are available for College Now students who demonstrate commitment to helping their school, community, or fellow citizens:
- Multiple grants of $2500 each, to be used toward tuition costs at any of CUNY's 17 undergraduate colleges
- Two awards of $5000 each, for students who will attend City College (CCNY) with an intended major in a field related to engineering
Scholarship winners are chosen based on their grades, extracurricular activities, work, and volunteer experiences. In addition, all applicants are required to write an essay on civic responsibility. For other application requirements, please refer to the sidebar on the right side of this page.
