Excerpts from Christina's Essay

Civic responsibility is a word that has a lot of definitions for different people. Yet, there is one similar basis. Civic responsibility is to assist humanity in practical applications so a person or group has a lighter load or none at all.… I did my part in civic service at my New Life Fellowship where I assisted the teacher in the two and four year old nursery.…

I get a lot of rewards from being with the kids and the kids enjoy my company and make me feel needed.… Parents cannot always have their children in service with them; they usually get restless and make noise. It is important for the kids and parents to have someone dependable, stable, and familiar.… I notice the difference it makes to put this time into taking care of kids.

Once, I was out for some time because of sickness. I remember my first day back and helping Felicia color her rainbow. As I did, she patted my hand and asked innocently "where were you, I have not seen you in a long time?" I understood what she meant and answered, "I was sick and could not come." She paused for a while then replied in a soft small voice, "I missed you a lot." I love these kids! They have made such an impression on me that I will pursue a career as a nurse in a children's hospital… I think it will make parents of sick children happy to know they have a caring nurse to watch over their children.
