Excerpts from Pieri's Essay
Civic responsibility is the moral and legal obligation of people to work in a society. My civic responsibility is focused on making a difference in society by working for the improvement of my community. It is our civic responsibility to make changes. We have the power, but changes require commitment, effort and dedication.
My school is one of the most important places where I want to make changes. I am part of the student government and it is my duty to be the voice of the students. For me, it is necessary to discuss all the issues that concern my school community because we were elected to make a difference and to improve school conditions.
It is my civic responsibility to improve my leadership skills. I am part of a Global Kids project on social activism. Global Kids is an organization dedicated to the development of social projects. It is composed of school leaders from different parts of the country working to create changes for the benefit of the community. It is my job as a leader to give everyone the opportunity to participate in changes and to educate people about problems and the possible ways to solve them.
It is my civic responsibility to work for the unity of my community. It is important to diffuse the idea that our differences make us valuable. It is our job to fight against discrimination and prejudice, factors that contribute to the division of society and consequently to the stagnation of it. In my Council for Unity class, we have the purpose of promoting a feeling of cooperation, unity and solidarity among the school members.
Civic responsibility can be defined as a way to be an active member of society. My community and my Hispanic heritage inspire me in the constant struggle to achieve equality. It is my goal to be a leader. It is my goal to be the voice of those people who need me; for me, this is my civic responsibility.
