"Jerameel was my student last semester in my Business Education class and later became one of my employees. In class, she was energetic, motivated and eager to learn. She was always willing to do more than what was required to excel. As my employee, she is hard-working and a quick learner. . . She has a sincere desire to become a successful woman, and I believe she will be dynamic at whatever she decides to pursue."

Excerpts from Jerameel's Essay
The power of our actions makes a big difference, especially when you are helping someone in need. I consider myself a hardworking, understanding and caring individual. Community service plays a big role in my life, since everybody can benefit from it. Throughout my teenage years I have done community service:
- I counted potholes in the streets during a summer internship. As a result, those potholes were fixed. It was a unique experience and I actually realized that I made a difference.
- As a peer leader at RAPP (Relationship Abuse Prevention Program), I also went to a women?s shelter. Once there I realized how much struggle a single mother has to go through, especially if she is facing domestic violence.
- As a member of New York Cares I went to a church and helped distribute canned foods, vegetables, and other groceries to people infected with AIDS. I truly appreciated that opportunity. There I had a chance to share some love and kindness with people in need.
Being a volunteer has helped me to respect people and to understand their needs. I strongly believe that I had made a difference dedicating my time to help others in need. It was very rewarding. At the end of my community service, I felt happy, complete and satisfied.
