Excerpts from Nathalie's Essay

Zora Neale Hurston once said, "Ships at a distance have every man's dreams onboard." In my dreams I envision myself ten years from now, an educated neonatal physician. I see myself taking care of babies who face losing their lives and their dreams. Becoming successful and being positive is my contribution to America, and the more babies that are saved under my care, the greater the chances of improvement for this country. But before I can achieve this goal, I have to chase that ship. My dreams are onboard and I must take advantage of as many opportunities as I can.

I have enrolled myself in the Nurse's Assistant program at my high school. This program has allowed me to experience first-hand what it's like to work in a health care facility. My education and service at the nursing and rehabilitation centers have given me insight on what it's like to be the patient. There are people who are going to need me and I won't let them down.

In all the activities I partake in, I am equipping myself with the skills I need to succeed in the workforce. But most importantly, the example I make by staying educated and getting involved will motivate my peers to do the same. Then we all may follow our dreams.
