"Throughout the past few years, I have observed Amina's participation in this club by the community service activities she so willingly performs. Amina has fought in the war against diseases by walking with her peers in the Breast Cancer Walk, the AIDS Walk, and the March of Dimes. Not only has Amina indirectly tried to improve society by donating money and attending walks, but she has also taken direct action to help young children in her community by tutoring them in math and reading."

Excerpts from Amina's Essay
My first step in helping the community was by joining the Key Club in my school. This internationally recognized club was the venue through which I met other students who also wanted to make a difference in people's lives. Together, we participated in bake sales and fundraisers for the Tsunami, Hurricane Katrina, and South-Asian earthquake reliefs. We worked hard to donate money to the poor, suddenly homeless people of Indonesia, New Orleans, India, and Pakistan. In this way, we not only helped victims of natural disasters in America, but also those in other countries.
Also, we helped out our community by collecting books, toys, and candy for sick children in hospitals. Then, we organized a dinner for the parents of the sick and disabled children of the Long Island Jewish Hospital. These small actions really did brighten up the children's lonely time in the hospitals and let them know that there were people out there who cared about them. In addition to providing for these helpless people, we also participated in walks to find cures for AIDS and breast cancer. By walking alongside my fellow Key Clubbers, I felt a great surge of love for my country and the people in it. Although it sounds very much like a cliché, I really did wish to make this country the safest, cleanest, happiest place on Earth.
