Excerpts from Rupinder's Essay

I have been involved in several community service activities. By helping to organize and run the Hurricane Katrina Relief and the Pakistani Earthquake Relief fundraisers, I have acquired the knowledge that we are all connected to each other in this world.

A series of fundraising events took place at our school. There were dances, such as the Harvest Dance and Sweetheart Dance. We also organized a talent show, canned food drive and coat drive. I also conducted two bake sales to help these worthy causes. All of these events helped our school raise money for the Earthquake and Hurricane relief.

By organizing and running these events, I have learned a lot about myself. Community service has taught me patience, tolerance, character building and respect for others. It has made me aware that sometimes in our lives we should take the time to think about helping the less fortunate.
