Excerpts from Riyad's Essay
Throughout my high school years I've been involved in community service groups. I've participated in the AIDS walk for the last three years, [and] also participated in the Male Mentoring Program. I also spent one summer as a mentor/tutor for STEP/Proyecto Access. In all these programs, I had the opportunity to work with fellow students who also help me understand what being an American was all about.
I understand the struggles that my parents went through to help better our lives …. Because of this and the knowledge that this country has provided me, I can assure anyone that I will make my parents proud and achieve my own American Dream.
