"I have known Marina for three years in my capacity as her guidance counselor. She is an independent, intelligent, resourceful, and a highly ambitious young lady. Marina is involved in school activities as well as outside programs in her community such as helping out her teachers and taking care of sick children in the hospital; that certainly enriches her life and spirit. Excerpts from Marina's Essay
I am a proud citizen of the United States of America, a country that exemplifies generosity, willingness and has led me to believe that helping our fellow neighbors is what being American is all about. Throughout my time in high school I have volunteered my time in numerous activities and organizations such as assisting teachers and guidance counselors, selling candy to raise money for the school's club, etc. However, I feel that my most meaningful experience is my service at the hospital. There I cared for sick and injured children and helped them to gain a momentary escape from the hospital environment. It was a very beneficial experience because I learned so much.
My experience of volunteering at the hospital combined with my college education will aid me in further helping my community in the years to come. I intend to become a doctor with the hope of treating the whole patient. As I learned from my volunteer experiences, caring for a sick patient is not only a process of addressing the physical issue.
