Professional Advancement
If you're looking to get ahead—or just keep up—with your career, the City University of New York offers relatively low-cost courses that are designed to help you:
- keep current with new developments in your area of expertise
- expand on your existing skills and/or
- refresh underlying knowledge in your field
There are several places within CUNY where one can take such courses, including:
The School of Professional Studies. This school, based at CUNY's Graduate Center, offers college-credit courses for professionals working in disability studies, education, information technology, labor studies, law, nonprofit management, real estate, and science.
For more information on these courses and (any new ones that might be added), visit the CUNY School of Professional Studies website.
Continuing Education Departments. Eighteen CUNY campuses offer continuing education programs in dozens of fields. There's literally something for everyone, whether you're a welder, medical assistant, property manager, teacher, entrepreneur…. Courses, which often award college credit that can be used toward certificates or degrees, are generally scheduled with the working adult in mind.
For more information, visit the Continuing Education page of the CUNY website. (This page contains links to the continuing ed programs and catalogs for each college.)
Finally, there's always the option of studying for a certificate or advanced degree if you're looking for a major change in your professional status. To learn more, read our Going—or Going Back—to College page.
