Good news! There are free or low cost English classes at many places in New York City, including the City University of New York (CUNY).
Where Can I Take English Classes?
- The City University of New York (CUNY) has free English classes for adults in the Bronx, Brooklyn, Manhattan, Queens, and Staten Island. You can study during the day, at night, or on the weekends.

- The CUNY Language Immersion Program (CLIP) offers low cost English classes ($12/week) to qualified immigrants who have been accepted to degree programs at CUNY. Students can stay in CLIP for up to one year. During that time, they can take no other CUNY classes.

- Public Libraries, the New York City Department of Education, and Community Organizations also run free English programs. To find a suitable program, you can consult the Literacy Assistance Center (LAC) of New York.
- Phone : 212-803-3333 (9 AM to 5 PM, Monday through Friday). The LAC has operators who can speak to you in English, Spanish, French, and French Creole.
