Criminal Justice Summer Institute (CJSI)

Gain increased understanding of cultural and historical underpinnings of the American criminal justice system through the 3-credit course Criminal Justice 101. In the afternoon Criminal Law Seminar/Workshop, you will explore the occupational roles played by various actors within the criminal justice apparatus and learn about educational pathways towards acquiring necessary training and educational credentials required for entry into specific criminal justice occupations. You also get to visit the NYPD Crime Lab in Jamaica, Queens to meet professional crime scene investigators. Ballistics experts in the facilities firearm’s lab provide a live demonstration of firearm investigative techniques.

9:30 AM to 3:00 PM
Three college credits upon successful completion.

Metrocards and lunch vouchers provided.

Eligibility Requirements

  • Be a New York City public high school student, entering 11th or 12th grade in September 2017
  • Have a minimum grade point average of 85 in English for students entering 11th grade, or 75+ on the ELA Regents for students entering 12th grade
  • Students not meeting academic requirements but who express strong interest in the program will be granted an opportunity to interview for program openings
  • Students coming from John Jay College partner schools will be given priority, but eligible students from other public schools may attend if space permits.
