Join us this summer and you can qualify for College before you graduate high school!
Did you know that you need a score of
75+ on the ELA Regents exam to take most college credit Humanities courses, and
80+ on the Integrated Algebra Regents to take a college credit Math course?
AND that you need both to qualify for a four-year CUNY college?
Did you know that if you have not achieved these scores, you will start college needing to take 0-credit remedial courses in Reading, Writing or Math, and will be much less likely to ever graduate from college?
If you need help in either ELA or Math, you should take advantage of the College Focus Summer Program @ LaGuardia Community College. This free summer program will strengthen your skills and prepare you for the CUNY Assessment tests. If you pass these tests, you will be exempt from remedial courses* throughout CUNY, and ready to take college credit courses in your senior year of high school.
Enrollling in either a Math or an ELA course, you will have access to tutoring, a college success workshop and recreational facilities. Participants will receive a Student Metrocard, lunch, and an Application Scholarship for CUNY's online application valued at $65!
*Remedial courses are community college classes in math or reading and writing that are required of any student who is not well enough prepared for college as determined by his or her Regents scores. Remedial courses carry no credits but they cost tuition dollars and use up financial aid. Remediation must be completed before moving on to accumulate credits for a degree.
To apply, print and complete an application. Applications will be accepted on a rolling basis until classes are full.
