College Now @ Queensborough Community College
This program is designed to introduce students to robotics, robotic construction, programming, operation, and basic design theory with the hands-on four (4) college credit course, ET 375 (Introduction to Robotics). Throughout the summer, students will work in teams to design, construct, and program autonomous mobile robots by learning and using the C Programming Language within the LEGO MINDSTORMS NXT Robotics System. Robotics projects will include behaviors such as line-following, random roaming with obstacle avoidance using IR sensors and ultrasonic range finding sensors, and rotating until a path is clear using the data from the ultrasonic range finders.
Students will also attend an accompanying workshop which, through a hands-on approach, will make connections between mathematics and other real world applications. The workshop will improve mathematical skills by focusing upon how math concepts apply to robot construction. Eligible students will take the CUNY COMPASS exam at the end of the course.
