Summer Programs

College Now @ LaGuardia Community College

Topics and Research in Biology

SCB101 will introduce you to some of the most important aspects of current biological theory, methodology, and research. Concepts derive from cell biology, anatomy and physiology, genetics, biotechnology, evolutionary theory, and ecology. Afternoon labs will help you understand the applications of the Scientific Method to data collection, analysis and interpretation, and allow you to explore these concepts by isolating your own DNA, doing DNA sequencing and identification, creating bacterial cells that glow in the dark, examining water samples from the nearby Newtown Creek, and more… In addition, you will work in groups directly supervised by faculty members in the Natural Science Department, to complete research projects which you will present to your classmates, Natural Science faculty, College Now staff and other guests from Academic Affairs.
