College Preparation and Awareness
College Now's focus on college preparation and awareness was sharpened in 2004, when Baruch College Now developed a curriculum for a 20 hour class called "Think College Now" for 9 th and 10 th graders. Following the success of this pilot course, College Now encouraged its campus programs to develop similar activities designed to build both essential academic skills and practical "college knowledge" and to establish multiple entry points into the program for a wide range of students.
This type of programming may be offered to students before, during or after they enroll in college credit courses or to students who don't enroll in college courses while in high school but who wish to begin preparing for college early. This approach helps College Now attain its goal of extending access to all motivated students—not only those who are already college bound.
In 2006, College Now established a college preparation and awareness working group, comprised of staff from the Central Office and campus programs. One of the committee's charges was to review and categorize the variety of such activities ongoing in College Now and to select a representative sampling of course materials to share with others interested in developing similar programming.
The "Think College Now" curricula, as well as other curricula and syllabi, individual lessons and handouts used in College Now programs, can be accessed from this page.
Because these activities are designed to work within an integrated program, those wishing to download documents from these pages must contact a College Now coordinator to discuss an implementation plan and obtain an access code.
